How to Limit & Avoid Danger

Prepare

Prepare food that can be eaten when the powers off, change the temperature on your fridges and freezers (or get dry/block ice), and keep bottled water OR boiling water on hand. Another way you can prepare is by keeping track of your local news.

After a hurricane

First, make sure your area is safe to return to before re-entering. Ensure that pets and children do not drink the water until you’re certain there are no toxins remaining in the pipes. Clean and disinfect all dishes, hard surfaces, and other household items to eliminate any harmful contaminants.

Reinforce your home

Install hurricane shutters, secure all roof aspects, reinforce anything that is attached, and install resistant gravel outside your home.
